Restructuring of Parental Leave Entitlements under Employment Law

The Law on Amendments to the Social Services Law and Certain Other Laws numbered 7578 (“Law”), published in the Official Gazette dated 1 May 2026, introduces significant changes to the parental leave regime under Turkish labor law.

The Law notably extends maternity leave to 24 weeks, increases paternity leave to 10 days, introduces unpaid leave for foster parents, and shortens the pre-birth working period. It also includes a transitional provision granting additional maternity leave for eligible employees.

These amendments reflect a strengthened approach toward supporting family life and parental rights within the workplace.
