Regulatory Developments in Online Platforms and Gaming Sector

The Law on Amendments to the Social Services Law and Certain Other Laws (“Law”), published in the Official Gazette dated 1 May 2026 and numbered 33240, introduces significant amendments to the regulatory framework applicable to digital platforms and the online gaming ecosystem under Law No. 5651.

Within this scope, the Law introduces new definitions regarding the gaming ecosystem, adopts a platform-centered regulatory approach, and restructures the obligations applicable to social network providers and gaming platforms.

The amendments notably include child protection obligations for social network providers, age-rating and parental control requirements for gaming platforms, representative appointment obligations for certain foreign-based platforms, and stricter compliance and enforcement mechanisms regarding content removal and information requests.
